POETRY AT TECH

October 7th & November 20th

Poetry@TECH will be returning to in-person events and a brand new venue, the Cypress Theater, in the John Lewis Student Center at GT on Saturday, October 7th at 2pm (reception to follow) for DAVID BOTTOMS: A LIFE IN POETRY. Please be there as we celebrate the life and work of such a driving force in poetry—former Georgia Poet Laureate, teacher & mentor to so many. The event will also mark the release of David’s A Scrap in the Blessings Jar: New and Selected Poems from LSU Press.

The event will feature music from David Yoke and Mike Mattison from the Tedeschi/Trucks Band, as well as readings and performances of David’s poems—which he specifically chose for each reader—from Edward Hirsch, Earnest Suarez, Chelsea Rathburn, Katie Chaple, James Davis May, Travis Denton, Tom Key, Lauren K. Watel, Louis Corrigan, and Rachel Ashe.

This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome—no tickets or registration required. Plenty of parking. For more information about the event including directions to the Cypress Theater, click on: https://poetry.gatech.edu/events/david-bottoms-celebration.

November 2nd:

And mark your calendars for November 2 in the Cypress Theater, as we introduce our new Bourne Chair in Poetry, VICTORIA CHANG, who will be sharing our poetry stage with acclaimed poets JAMES DAVIS MAY and VIEVEE FRANCIS. For more details, click here

In the meantime, Victoria and I are looking forward to seeing each of you on Saturday, October 7, 2023 for a homecoming of sorts, for DAVID BOTTOMS: A LIFE IN POETRY.
